At the recent MS coffee morning parent meeting, Mr Stephen Brown, the Math Dept. Head for the Middle School, outlined the process for deciding the recommendations for Math placement in Grade 8.
Placement for Grade 8 Math depends on the recommendation of each child's Math teacher. In making their recommendations the teacher considers the work habits and results on assessments conducted throughout the year in reaching their decision. These assessments include quizzes, end of unit tests, results from the standardized tests administered, and willingness to undertake extension activities including sitting for the various Math Contests and competitions offered throughout the year.
An initial interim written recommendation will be made on the 3rd Quarter Report, discussion with parents will occur at the parent/teacher conference, and a final written recommendation will be made by mid May.
